How does it work?

AT&T CallVantage service uses advanced new technology to convert your voice into data that enables you to place and receive calls over your high speed internet connection. You simply plug the adapter (provided as part of the service) in between your computer and your high speed DSL, cable, or fiber connection.

Please note that because this service relies on advanced technology and your broadband service, if there is a power outage or your broadband service is interrupted, this service will not work. There are also some important differences between dialing 911 from this phone versus your standard phone that you should also familiarize yourself with. Click here for details.

How is this different than my current telephone service?

AT&T CallVantage service offers a number of advantages over current telephone services. Although it relies on different technology and communications that do not travel over regular phone lines, it provides features and capabilities similar to your current telephone service.

This includes local, long distance, and international calling, Call Waiting, 3-Way Calling, Call Forwarding, and Caller ID with Name. Subscribers to our AT&T CallVantage Service Plan receive unlimited local and long distance calling, including calls to Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, while subscribers to our AT&T CallVantage Local Plan receive unlimited local calling with regional toll calls and long distance calls billed at an additional $0.04 per minute. And all international calls are billed at competitive additional per-minute rates.

AT&T CallVantage service also provides additional features which provide control and connectedness, such as Do Not Disturb, Locate Me, Call Logs, and the ability to listen to and manage voice mail via your AT&T CallVantage Service Homepage.

AT&T CallVantage service lets you add a 2nd Line so two different members of your family can be on the phone at the same time. Or, you can add additional Users with AT&T CallVantage PlusSM, which let your family members share a single phone line, with each having their own phone number, Voice Mail, Phone Book, Call Logs and more.

What are additional Users?

With CallVantage Plus, you can add Users, which lets multiple members of your household share a phone line while enjoying their own phone number, Voice Mail, and other advanced features.

Each User has its own:

  • Phone number
  • Home page
  • Phone Book
  • Call Logs
  • Speed Dial
  • Voice Mail
  • Do Not Disturb
  • Locate Me
  • Call Filtering

With CallVantage Plus, each User gets a unique phone number. Calls to that number go to the User's own Voice Mail, show up on the User's own Call Logs, are intercepted by the User's own Do Not Disturb, and so forth.

You can add multiple Users to each of your 1st and 2nd Lines (if you have a 2nd Line). Each User's phone number and password are unique, and can be used to manage service features on their own AT&T CallVantage Service Home Pages.

Adding Users is not the same as adding a 2nd phone line. If you have a single line, only one person can make calls from the phone connected to your adapter, no matter how many Users you added to your line. Incoming calls while the line is busy go to the Voice Mail for the User dialed.

You can have up to four Users for each line. Users are a premium feature you can subscribe to for an additional monthly service charge. Visit the Add/Modify Service Features page to sign up for AT&T CallVantage PlusSM.

Can I add another phone line?

Yes you can. While AT&T CallVantage service comes with a single phone line by default, if your family needs to be on more than one call at a time you can also sign up for a 2nd Line.

When you add a 2nd Line you can connect a phone to the jack labeled "2" on the back of your adapter. This may also be called "VoIP2" or "Phone2" (you may need to remove a plastic plug from this jack). You can then make calls on each line separately.

Each line has a main number associated with it. In addition, you can get additional numbers for either line by either adding Users or Simple ReachSM Numbers. Adding Users lets your family share a single phone line while providing each family member with his or her own phone number, Voice Mail, Call Logs, etc. Adding Simple Reach Numbers lets you set up phone numbers around the country that distant friends and family can use to reach you on your AT&T CallVantage Service Phone for the price of a local call.

2nd Line is a premium feature you can subscribe to at an additional monthly charge. For pricing or to sign up for a 2nd Line visit Add/Modify Service Features once you are an AT&T CallVantage subscriber.
